OS Engineer (Linux Systems Administrator)

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a mid-level Linux Engineer (5-10+ years of experience) to support the Operating Systems and DBA Services organization on the COSMOS contract at NASA's Johnson Space Center. COSMOS provides Mission Control Center, Mission Training Center and Space Vehicle Mockup Facility support for astronaut preparation and engineering analysis. The engineer works under the general direction of the Linux team lead, covering production, staging, development and disaster recovery environments.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain operating systems, software applications and security compliance, including threat detection and investigations
• Manage ongoing and new IT initiatives and upgrades, and evaluate new software
• Work with monitoring and performance tools (SolarWinds)
• Automate manual and repetitive processes using PowerShell, PowerCLI or Ansible
• Investigate new technologies and recommend system improvements and life-cycle planning
• Occasional evening and weekend shifts and periodic 24x7 on-call rotation

Required profile

• B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a similar field, or 5-10 years of relevant experience
• Ability to obtain a NASA PIV badge
• Proven track record of working under tight deadlines, strong communication and organizational skills

Required skills

• Linux operating system (services, security, performance tuning) and VMware
• High-level scripting languages such as Perl, Bash or BigFix ActionScript (plus)
• Red Hat Satellite or Red Hat Automation Platform (plus)
• Heterogeneous Windows/Linux management (SSH, Samba, Kerberos, LDAP) and basic TCP/IP networking (DHCP, DNS)
• ServiceNow, Splunk, SolarWinds, Docker or Kubernetes (plus)
