Operating Engineer (Plant Operator)

About the role

Join a growing energy company to operate and maintain the district energy plant serving Louisiana State University. Work with a skilled team on 12‑hour rotating shifts to ensure reliable steam, hot water, chilled water, and utility services for the campus.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot plant systems to minimize downtime and support preventive maintenance.
• Assist with startup, shutdown, and emergency response activities.
• Maintain operational logs and use plant control systems to track equipment status.
• Support maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 3‑10 years of experience in plant operations, maintenance, or troubleshooting of central heating and cooling systems.
• Ability to work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Valid Louisiana driver’s license (or ability to obtain one).

Required skills

• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Experience with boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and plant control systems.
• Familiarity with HVAC, district energy, combined heat and power (CHP), and plant automation.
• Understanding of energy management systems and plant instrumentation.
