Oncology Social Worker

About the role

The Oncology Social Worker provides comprehensive psychosocial support to patients and families navigating cancer treatment at a major academic medical center. This position works within a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care that addresses emotional, financial, and practical needs.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct psychosocial assessments for oncology patients and their families.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans, including counseling, resource referral, and crisis intervention.
• Coordinate discharge planning, follow‑up services, and community support.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to integrate social work services into patient care.
• Document interventions and outcomes in the electronic health record.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW preferred).
• Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a clinical social worker.
• Experience providing social work services in an oncology or acute‑care setting.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
