On Call Engagement Specialist

About the role

Share is seeking an On‑Call Engagement Specialist to provide flexible, as‑needed support to shelter participants during periods of high demand, staff absences, or special projects. This temporary, contingent role has no guaranteed hours and is scheduled based on organizational need.

Key responsibilities

• Engage families and individuals transitioning from shelter to permanent housing, providing referrals and assistance.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment by inspecting the shelter, enforcing policies, and responding to crises such as medical emergencies or domestic violence.
• Communicate shift information, coordinate with volunteers, and assist with meal preparation and clean‑up.
• Network with social service agencies to offer information and referrals, and record activities in the HMIS database.

Required profile

• At least one year of direct human‑services experience with homeless, low‑income, elderly, or disabled populations.
• Two years of college coursework in social or behavioral sciences.
• Ability to communicate effectively, de‑escalate conflicts, and work independently.
• Basic first‑aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain).

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Experience with HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) databases.
• CPR and basic first‑aid certification.
