On-Air Announcer - Part Time

About the role

iHeartMedia Markets is hiring a part-time On-Air Announcer in Harrisburg, PA. The announcer creates, produces and presents radio content covering music, entertainment, politics, news, weather, sports and traffic, typically specializing in one type of music. The position is listed as regular and hourly.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver newscasts, announce the radio playlist, give weather and traffic conditions, and deliver sport scores and game information
• Comment on music and other topics of interest to the audience and interview musical personalities and listeners
• Write, review and edit news copy, introductions, public service announcements, commercials, pre-recorded reports and contests
• Take part in promotional events and, where applicable, operate the studio control board and remote programming
• Regulate program timing, run syndicated programming and play commercials
• Monitor the quality of incoming and outgoing programming, protect the station's license by censoring live programs, and handle emergency inserts such as news updates and alerts
• Check studio equipment and notify Engineering of malfunctions
• May directly sell advertising space to advertisers

Required profile

• 1-2 years' experience as an announcer in a smaller market or college station environment
• 4-year college degree, preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism
• Socially informed, up to date on local and national trends, with a pleasant, well-controlled voice and good pronunciation
• Excellent writing and editing skills, and proficiency in media production and broadcast systems
• May require selling skills and other language proficiency, e.g. Spanish

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social networking
• Interviewing and on-air communication skills
