Network Systems Research Engineer (Level III/IV/Sr I)

About the role

The Network Systems Research Engineer (Levels III, IV, Senior I) will conduct and support basic and applied research on networks and networked applications within the Texas A&M University System Offices. Reporting to senior leadership, the engineer will design, implement, and test innovative solutions for next‑generation networking challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate technical approaches and develop research proposals, including equipment, protocols, designs, and tools.
• Design, document, and standardize new or upgraded research networks based on input from researchers, administrators, contractors, and vendors.
• Produce network designs, security recommendations, and detailed engineering documentation for research projects.
• Act as subject‑matter expert on networking research initiatives and support ongoing research activities.

Required profile

• Under general direction, responsible for conducting and supporting basic and applied network research.
• Demonstrated expertise in existing network technologies and ability to create innovative solutions.
• Strong analytical skills for evaluating equipment, protocols, and design alternatives.
• Effective communication with researchers, system administrators, and external partners.
