Network Systems Research Engineer (Level III/IV/Sr I)

About the role

The Network Systems Research Engineer (Levels III, IV, Sr I) supports basic and applied research on advanced networking technologies within the Texas A&M University System Offices. Working under general direction, the engineer designs, implements, and tests innovative solutions for next‑generation network challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate technical approaches for research proposals, including equipment, protocols, and tools.
• Create network designs, standards, and documentation for new or upgraded research networks.
• Gather requirements from researchers, system administrators, contractors, and vendors to produce detailed specifications.
• Act as subject‑matter expert on networking research projects, providing guidance and troubleshooting.
• Design and recommend security measures for research network systems.

Required profile

• Experience conducting network‑focused research and supporting research initiatives.
• Ability to translate research requirements into practical network designs and documentation.
• Strong analytical skills for evaluating technical solutions.
