Motor Equipment Body Mechanic, Metal (Travel)

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Motor Equipment Metal Mechanic (motor vehicle body repairer) who repairs damaged bodies and body parts of automobiles, buses and light trucks according to repair manuals, using hand and power tools. The position involves up to 100% travel and requires a pre-employment test of structural welding abilities.

Key responsibilities

• Remove damaged fenders, panels and grills with wrenches and a cutting torch, then bolt or weld replacements and straighten bent frames with a hydraulic jack and pulling device.
• Refinish repaired surfaces with a paint spray gun and sander, aim headlights, align wheels and bleed the hydraulic brake system.
• Plan and schedule work from work orders, perform quality assurance and quality control, and troubleshoot problems.
• Provide coordination, on-the-job assistance and limited technical direction to employees doing similar work.
• Respond to emergencies and follow the employer's safety, quality and procedure compliance requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, plus five years of documented, verifiable work experience as a metal mechanic.
• Valid and current state driver's license and ability to speak, read, write and understand English.
• Ability to work in a team, under deadlines and with frequent lifting of 20-50 pounds.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, a government background check and a National Agency Check (NAC) within 60 days of hire; US citizenship is required for facility credentials.
• Available for any shift, including weekends, and willing to travel up to 100%.
