Molecular Biology Associate

About the role

Active Site is seeking a part‑time Molecular Biology Associate to join its BSL‑1 laboratory in Somerville. The position is temporary, offering either a 12‑week or 16‑week fixed‑term, and provides an opportunity to independently drive DNA assembly projects while leveraging AI tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, assemble, purify and clone DNA constructs using standard molecular biology techniques.
• Perform PCR, gel electrophoresis, and primer design experiments.
• Utilize Benchling for sequence management and Claude Code for AI‑assisted design.
• Manage a personal reagent budget and maintain detailed lab records.
• Work autonomously without day‑to‑day technical mentorship.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or holding a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry or a related field.
• At least three months of independent, project‑based experience with PCR, gel electrophoresis and molecular cloning.
• U.S. citizenship, permanent residency or other work authorization.
