Mental Health Technician – Psychiatric Inpatient Unit

About the role

The Mental Health Technician provides delegated nursing care to adult, geriatric and medical‑psychiatric patients in the Psych IP Unit, following physician orders, treatment team guidelines and hospital policies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living such as oral care, meals and mobility.
• Participate in therapeutic milieu activities under clinical staff direction.
• Support quality‑improvement initiatives and comply with JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals.
• Adapt communication and care approaches to respect patient privacy and individual needs.
• Maintain knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and ensure compliance.
• Report any unethical or safety concerns in accordance with the employer’s compliance program.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; no prior experience required.
• American Heart Association Health Care Provider (BLS) certification.
• Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within the first month of employment.
• Preferred certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
