Medical Doctor – Correctional Facility

About the role

GEO is seeking a qualified Medical Doctor to serve as the primary healthcare provider for detainees and inmates at our Pine Prairie, LA facility. This position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on the health and rehabilitation of a vulnerable population while working within a supportive, mission‑driven organization.

Key responsibilities

• Examine, diagnose, and treat detainees/inmates referred by nursing staff.
• Prescribe medications, manage ongoing medical cases, and initiate dental and psychiatric referrals.
• Develop and evaluate medical program activities in line with industry standards and contractual obligations.
• Document all services and maintain comprehensive patient medical records.
• Communicate effectively with hospital teams, mental health professionals, nurses, technicians, and administrative staff.
• Provide 24‑hour on‑call support as needed and act as liaison between correctional officials, public agencies, and the facility.
• Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, conferences, and professional societies.

Required profile

• Medical degree from an accredited school.
• Active license to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine in the state of Louisiana.
• Minimum two years of direct clinical experience, preferably in a correctional or similar setting.
• Strong diagnostic, critical‑thinking, and communication abilities.
