Medical Coding Specialist – Dermatology & Orthopedics

About the role

Clarity RCM is expanding its revenue cycle management services from dermatology into orthopedics. The Medical Coding Specialist will ensure accurate coding across both specialties, support account managers, and help resolve denials.

Key responsibilities

• Translate clinical documentation into accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes, focusing on dermatology procedures and orthopedic visits as needed.
• Apply specialty‑specific surgery modifiers (25, 59, XE, XS, XP, XU) and ensure compliance with NCCI edits.
• Validate provider notes against E/M leveling guidelines and communicate gaps to practice managers and physicians.
• Research and resolve complex coding‑related denials, using AI tools to draft appeals.
• Navigate EHR and practice management platforms such as ModMed (EMA), EZDERM, Nextech, and eCW.
• Identify recurring documentation errors and payer trends, recommending process improvements.

Required profile

• Active AAPC credential with 1‑2 years of medical coding experience, strong dermatology expertise; orthopedic coding experience is a plus.
• Self‑starter who can work in an ambiguous, fast‑growing environment.
• Comfortable using AI tools to enhance efficiency.
• Calm under pressure, able to provide clear, compliance‑backed answers to providers and managers.

Required skills

• ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
• Proficiency with EHR/PM systems: ModMed, EZDERM, Nextech, eCW.
• Knowledge of surgery modifiers and NCCI edit rules.
• Experience researching and appealing payer denials.
