About the role
Join Johnson & Johnson's Surgery team in Santa Clara to design, prototype, integrate, and test cutting‑edge medical robotic platforms. You will work alongside electrical, mechatronics, controls, software, and clinical engineers to bring innovative surgical solutions to market.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with CAD design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, debugging, and documentation of mechanical assemblies and systems.
- Generate and present design concepts, conduct design reviews, and utilize rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing, machining, hand tools, and bonding.
- Support hardware integration, calibration, troubleshooting, and validation efforts, including clinical assessments on inanimate anatomical models.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled in an accredited program pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Biomedical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related engineering fields.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and ability to work full‑time for the internship term (June – August/September 2027).
- Permanent U.S. work authorization without future sponsorship.
Required skills
- Mechanical design experience with CAD modeling and assembly.
- Proficiency in rapid prototyping techniques: 3D printing, machining, hand tools, bonding.
- Knowledge of plastic and metal injection molding principles, material properties, and robotic hardware elements.
- Ability to document designs, test procedures, and perform root‑cause analysis.
