Mechanical Engineer Co‑op – Fast‑Paced Microfactory

About the role

Reframe Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co‑op to join the FAB1 microfactory team in Billerica, MA for a full‑time, semester‑length placement this fall. The role is hands‑on, allowing you to design, prototype, and test mechanical solutions that keep the factory running.

Key responsibilities

• Design and iterate mechanical components such as fixtures, workstations, material‑handling tools, and tooling, moving quickly from concept to CAD to prototype.
• Fabricate and assemble prototypes using mills, lathes, laser cutters, welders, 3D printers, and standard shop tools.
• Rotate across multiple active projects, picking up context quickly and contributing wherever needed.
• Validate designs on the shop floor, troubleshoot issues, and iterate toward production‑ready results.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (junior or senior preferred).
• Strong CAD skills (Onshape, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) and ability to model parts rapidly.
• Comfortable and safe operating shop equipment – mills, lathes, laser cutters, welding stations, 3D printers, hand and power tools.
• Fast learner with a bias toward action and strong communication skills.
