Masalit Interpreter (English & Masalit)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Masalit Interpreter to provide accurate, impartial, and confidential language support for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals and their service providers. The role involves both in‑person and remote interpretation across a variety of settings, helping refugees and immigrants access essential services.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver interpretation in English and Masalit for clinics, hospitals, schools, community organizations, and government agencies.
• Provide services in‑person, via telephone, videoconference, or other virtual platforms.
• Track assignments and work hours using designated software.
• Participate in trainings, assessments, and occasional special projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma strongly preferred; interpretation certification preferred.
• Relevant professional interpretation experience preferred.
• Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations strongly preferred.
• Cultural sensitivity and ability to build trust with clients and partners.
• Reliable transportation to appointment locations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Fluent spoken Masalit.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
