Maritime Test Engineer – Autonomous Systems

About the role

As a Maritime Test Engineer for Autonomous Systems, you will work directly on vessels to validate and refine autonomous surface vehicles for real‑world deployment. This hands‑on, on‑water position bridges cutting‑edge research and mission‑ready capability, ensuring performance, reliability, and safety in demanding environments.

Key responsibilities

• Execute on‑water test events aboard test and chase vessels in closed‑course and open‑ocean settings.
• Support pre‑underway system checkouts, launch and recovery, and pier‑side preparation of test vessels.
• Operate and monitor autonomy systems during test events, following test cards and procedures while maintaining deck safety.
• Collect, manage, and perform first‑pass analysis of test data to ensure quality and completeness.
• Identify, document, and triage system discrepancies using Atlassian Jira, collaborating with autonomy and hardware engineering teams.
• Contribute to test plans, procedures, and readiness reviews under the Test & Evaluation Director.
• Author clear after‑action and test reports capturing findings and recommendations.

Required profile

• Hands‑on technical mindset with the ability to work safely aboard vessels.
• Strong situational awareness and attention to detail during test operations.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Comfort operating in demanding maritime environments.

Required skills

• Atlassian Jira for issue tracking and triage.
