Maintenance Technician (2nd Shift)

About the role

Saputo, a global dairy processor, is hiring a Maintenance Technician for its 2nd shift in Franklin. The technician supports production by safely troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and improving cheese processing, packaging, refrigeration, boiler and utility equipment, working with Production, Sanitation, Quality, Engineering and other teams to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime and ensure food and employee safety.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic failures on processing, conveying, drying, milling, packaging, labeling and utility equipment.
• Support production operations such as shred and dice systems, cubers, conveyors, drying systems, packaging lines, Cryovac equipment, goat log processors and material handling equipment.
• Repair motors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, sprockets, belt drives, VFDs, HMIs, PLC-controlled equipment, servo systems, printers, labelers, metal detectors, scales, sensors, photo eyes, limit switches and safety devices.
• Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Read electrical schematics, PLC I/O drawings, P&IDs and mechanical drawings, and disassemble, inspect, repair, rebuild and reassemble production equipment.
• Maintain conveyor systems, pumps, motors, gearboxes and production machinery, including shaft alignment, bearing replacement, belt tracking and chain alignment.
• Maintain industrial refrigeration, compressed air, chilled water, boiler and hot water systems, and engine room equipment such as condensers, evaporators, compressors, pumps, valves and heat exchangers.
• Perform welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication and stainless-steel repairs, and take part in equipment installations, line modifications, capital projects and startups.
• Program and troubleshoot equipment settings through HMIs and automated control systems, and carry out preventive, predictive, corrective and emergency maintenance.
• Follow LOTO, confined space, hot work and other safety procedures, and keep maintenance records, work orders and PM documentation in SAP or another CMMS.
• Communicate equipment conditions and repair status with Production, Sanitation, Quality and Engineering, follow GMPs, SQF and food safety standards, and maintain a clean 5S work environment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two or more years of industrial maintenance experience in food manufacturing, dairy processing, packaging or a related environment.
• Ability to work any shift, including overtime, weekends and holidays.
• Preferred: technical degree, apprenticeship or industrial maintenance certification.
• Preferred: experience with PLC equipment, VFDs, industrial refrigeration, boilers, welding or fabrication, and SAP or a CMMS.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of mechanical systems (conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, motors).
• Experience troubleshooting electrical systems up to 480V and reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Basic computer skills and ability to document maintenance activities.
• Good visual acuity, fine motor skills and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
