Machinist II (JETSII Contract, NASA Support)

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Machinist II for its JETSII contract, supporting NASA's deep space exploration programs. The position is a CBA union job in a large, climate-controlled manufacturing facility with machining equipment. The Machinist II plans, lays out, machines and assembles parts and tools to precise tolerances.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, borers, grinders, gear cutters and drill presses, including setting speeds, feeds and depth of cut
• Plan machining sequences, choose cutting tools and hold workpieces, and read drawings, templates, sketches and blueprints
• Check setups and parts against blueprints, grind tool bits and drills, and train less experienced machinists
• May give technical direction to engineers and customers on pre-fabrication, modifications or repairs
• Maintain a clean workspace, organize inventory and safety equipment, use lift equipment and wear steel-toed shoes
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and adjust schedule for peak periods

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years of machinist experience
• Familiarity with standard machining concepts, practices and procedures
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Physical ability to stand, climb ladders, lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, and bend and kneel frequently
• Ability to hear and see with or without correction

Required skills

• Familiarity with at least one CNC programming language
• Preferred: CNC mill and lathe programming with CAD/CAM (ProE, GibbsCAM or conversational multi-axis CNC)
• Preferred: experience with HAAS, Hurco, Servo and Mazak centers, multi-axis machines, overhead cranes and NASA flight hardware
