About the role
Machinist II at Applied Materials operates CNC milling and turning equipment to produce prototype and production parts for semiconductor manufacturing. The role supports internal customers by delivering high‑quality machined components and performing repairs and modifications.
Key responsibilities
- Safely operate CNC Mill and CNC Lathe to perform moderately complex machining operations on steels, stainless steels, aluminum, plastics and other materials.
- Interpret work orders, blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions to determine tooling, fixtures and machining processes.
- Set up and adjust machines, calculate angles using trigonometry, and optimize machine capacity to minimize setups.
- Perform machining operations such as milling, turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, reaming and chamfering.
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges and indicators, and rework parts as needed.
- Maintain a clean work area, handle tools and stock properly, and follow departmental safety requirements.

- Demonstrates analytical skills and the ability to apply scientific methods to machining tasks.
- Provides courteous customer service to internal manufacturing, engineering and facilities teams.
- Recognizes and resolves typical machining problems without supervisory approval.
- Impacts the quality of work through attention to detail and adherence to specifications.
Required skills
- CNC Mill operation
- CNC Lathe operation
- Machining processes: milling, turning, threading, drilling, reaming, chamfering
- Use of machine shop equipment: surface grinders, drill presses, sanders, band saws, rotary tables
- Proficiency with inspection tools: calipers, micrometers, gauges, indicators
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders and technical sketches
- Basic trigonometry for setup calculations
