Long-term Engineering Internship – Aircraft Structural Design

About the role

This internship supports aircraft structural design engineering activities at Airbus in Wichita. Interns will work on design, static analysis, and fatigue/damage tolerance tasks for metallic and composite components, gaining hands‑on experience in a real aerospace environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design data sets including 3D models, 2D drafts, Bills of Material and Change Notes.
• Perform static and fatigue analyses using finite‑element tools for aircraft parts.
• Support modifications, repairs, and in‑service engineering activities.
• Assist with trade‑study data, weight‑reduction efforts, and certification tasks.

Required profile

• Current student pursuing a B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
• Must be located in the Wichita, KS metro area for an on‑site, multi‑semester internship.
• Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
• Basic knowledge of classical and numerical stress analysis methods.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CATIA, Isami, NASTRAN and PATRAN.
• Experience in CAD modeling and 3D/2D drafting.
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques.
• Microsoft Office suite and Google Workspace applications.
