Light Vehicle Technician (Levels I, II & III) - Small Engine Field Support

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Light Vehicle Technician to inspect and service the power equipment used by field parties in Antarctica. The role covers maintenance, diagnosis and repair of generators, snowmobiles and ATVs, engine rebuilds, and equipment operation in field camps.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, diagnose and repair generators, snowmobiles and ATVs, and rebuild engines, drive trains or components
• Train personnel on the safe use of the equipment
• Perform on-site maintenance and repairs in the field, and act as Equipment Operator in camps (e.g. grooming the skiway, loading and unloading aircraft)
• Train camp staff, contribute to the end-of-season report, and help with shovelling, cargo handling and aircraft fueling
• Maintain detailed records, complete work orders, and operate compressors, presses, air tools, electric power tools, forklifts and grooming equipment
• Assist the MEC Shop Foreman/Camp Manager and the heavy equipment technician, and support ASC metrics and environmental health, safety and quality requirements

Required profile

• Level I: high school diploma or GED, at least two years' experience maintaining diesel and gasoline small engines and generators
• Level II: at least four years' experience, or three years plus one season in Antarctica
• Level III: at least seven years' experience
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and US citizenship for facility credentials
• Able to lift and work outdoors in extreme cold, and to join community programs

Required skills

• Maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators
• Ability to read wiring schematics and teach end users how to use and maintain equipment
• Preferred: experience with snowmobiles, ATVs, tracked vehicles, cold weather work, engine rebuilding, electrical power generation and Wilderness First Responder certification
