Library Services Technician

About the role

The Frederick Douglass Library at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is seeking a full‑time Library Services Technician. This daytime position (8:00‑5:00) includes rotating Saturdays and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Key responsibilities

• Utilize library software and management systems to retrieve, enter, charge, and renew materials.
• Create, describe, and organize library information resources using designated tools and standards.
• Provide patrons with guidance in locating and retrieving library resources.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of technical issues and refer more complex problems as needed.
• Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and referrals related to library policies and services.
• Maintain physical collections through sorting, shelving, and routine upkeep.

Required profile

• Works under general supervision within one or more library functional areas.
• Demonstrates strong customer‑service orientation and attention to detail.
• Capable of handling routine technical problems and escalating when appropriate.

Required skills

• Proficiency with library software.
• Experience using a library management system.
• Basic troubleshooting abilities.
