Lead Water Plant Operator

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Lead Water Plant Operator who will run and maintain a water treatment plant with minimal supervision. The operator is designated Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for the facility, keeps the water supply running without interruption and works with plumbers and other infrastructure staff to resolve issues. The role involves rotating shifts (day, swing or night) and deployment to Antarctica.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the water treatment plant, keeping it clean and ensuring an uninterrupted water supply
• Monitor reverse osmosis units and ancillary equipment, make adjustments and start, operate and secure them
• Monitor water plant chemistry and water quality testing, adjusting chemicals as needed to meet quality standards
• Ensure compliance with ASC ESH, waste management and quality assurance requirements, including documentation, permits and reporting
• Maintain maintenance records, operating logbooks and databases, and coordinate repair and spare parts orders
• Train operators, evaluate job hazards and communicate them to staff, and advise the Utilities Supervisor on equipment status
• Work alone or in a team, respond to unscheduled failures and work rotating shifts, including in extreme cold
• Handle confidential personnel matters professionally and interact with partner companies, the National Science Foundation and military officials
• Take part in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; Colorado Class C certification (or equivalent)
• At least 6 months of supervisor or ORC experience
• Reverse osmosis experience required; two years of water production/treatment experience preferred
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening and background checks completed
• US citizenship required for facility credentials at this location
• Valid US driver's license; able to lift and work outdoors in extreme cold
