About the role
The Lead Electrical Engineer will be the primary technical authority for the gas turbine test facility, overseeing power distribution, variable frequency drives, load banks and generator synchronization equipment. This role ensures reliable operation of high‑ and medium‑voltage systems while driving continuous improvement and safety.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical authority for power distribution, VFDs, load banks and generator synchronization equipment.
- Maintain and diagnose high‑voltage and medium‑voltage switchgear, transformers, excitation systems and protective relaying for aeroderivative and heavy‑duty gas turbines.
- Monitor electrical system performance data to identify trends, prevent failures and optimise equipment life.
- Direct troubleshooting of protection trips, relay logic issues and control system irregularities.
- Manage arc‑flash studies, coordination studies and equipment testing protocols (Megger, TTR, Doble).
- Ensure compliance with IEEE, NEC, NESC and local code requirements.
- Review and approve electrical designs, modifications, documentation and maintenance procedures.
- Oversee electrical capital projects and major retrofits, adhering to GE Vernova technical standards.
- Act as technical liaison during planned outages for all electrical and instrumentation scope.
- Champion electrical safety programs, including LOTO, safe work practices and incident investigations.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7+ years experience in power plant electrical systems or similar industrial medium‑voltage equipment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license highly desirable.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Required skills
- Power distribution systems (480 V to 13.8 kV+).
- Variable frequency drives (VFDs) and load banks.
- Generator synchronization and protection.
- High‑voltage and medium‑voltage switchgear, transformers, excitation and protective relaying.
- Arc‑flash and coordination studies, equipment testing (Megger, TTR, Doble).
- Compliance with IEEE, NEC, NESC and local codes.
- Reading and modifying electrical one‑line diagrams, P&IDs and control logic drawings.
- Familiarity with GE Mark VI/VIe control systems.
- Knowledge of grid interconnection requirements and NERC CIP compliance.
