Laborer / Horticultural Attendant – Campus Grounds

About the role

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Physical Plant Services is seeking a Laborer/Horticultural Attendant to maintain turf and landscapes across an assigned campus area. The role works under the guidance of a Horticulturist supervisor and offers a clear career progression from Laborer to Horticultural Attendant.

Key responsibilities

• Perform turf‑maintenance tasks such as mowing, string trimming, edging, and blowing.
• Carry out landscape maintenance including pruning, mulching, weed control, and chemical applications.
• Assist with landscape installation and planting projects as needed.
• Follow safety and environmental guidelines while operating equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

Required profile

• One year of experience or training in farming, tree and shrub care, or groundskeeping, OR six semester hours in a plant‑science or landscape field.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to complete the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course.
• Ability to list full‑time or part‑time work experience and percentage of time spent on each duty on the application.
