Lab Support Technician I – Core Lab Support

About the role

This position provides comprehensive support for patient care activities in the Core Laboratory at UAMS. Working under the supervision of the section supervisor and senior technician, the Lab Support Technician I ensures specimens are correctly received, processed, and entered into the EPIC system.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, verify, and label specimens from all sources, ensuring correct tube type and proper placement in racks.
• Load specimens onto automation lines, scan into EPIC, and re‑label as needed.
• Enter orders, process add‑on tests, and handle reference, VA, ACH, and mail‑in specimens.
• Answer phone calls regarding results, fax reports, and assist with specimen collection inquiries.
• Call critical results and complete safety intelligence reports for the Core Lab Manager.

Required profile

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, lift up to 25 lbs, and perform repetitive hand motions.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the EPIC electronic health record system.
• Experience operating laboratory automation equipment and specimen processing.
