Juvenile Probation Parole Specialist II – Decatur, GA

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a dedicated Juvenile Probation Parole Specialist II to support the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders in custody or on probation within the Dekalb MSC & HITS region. Under general supervision, you will provide social services, develop rehabilitation plans, and ensure compliance with court‑ordered conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Interview probationers and parolees regularly to assess progress toward goals and compliance with probation contracts.
• Recommend remedial or court action for non‑compliance and administer drug/alcohol testing, including random screens.
• Prepare and maintain case files, write progress reports, and testify in court regarding offender backgrounds and sentencing recommendations.
• Provide counseling on substance abuse, anger management, and other factors influencing criminal behavior.
• Supervise community‑based sentences, conduct curfew checks, and perform field visits to homes, workplaces, or schools.

Required profile

• Associate degree in a related field with two years of human services experience, or four years of direct case‑management experience with offenders.
• Or two years of experience at the lower‑level Juvenile Probation/Parole Specialist I (SSP130) or equivalent.
• Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.

Required skills

• State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification (or ability to obtain).
• Knowledge of drug/alcohol testing procedures and case documentation.
