About the role

The Juvenile Correctional Sergeant supports the Department of Juvenile Justice in Savannah, GA, by creating and maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth. The role involves supervising staff, ensuring security procedures, and providing guidance to promote pro‑social behavior.

Key responsibilities

• Custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to detained youth, emphasizing safety and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, and prepare reports.
• Inspect, inventory, and control security equipment and technology.
• Maintain order and discipline through active supervision and intervention.
• Assist in training, selecting, and orienting subordinate correctional staff.
• Oversee officer activities and performance; act as Shift Supervisor when needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED and six months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (or equivalent).
• Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within six months of hire.
• State of Georgia POST certification and a valid driver’s license within six months.
• Ability to meet agency physical agility standards and pass required assessments.
