Juvenile Correctional Officer – Shift Supervisor (Dawson, GA)

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a dedicated Juvenile Correctional Officer to serve as a shift supervisor at the Terrell Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) in Dawson. In this role you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth while modeling pro‑social behavior.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with Department of Juvenile Justice policies and SOPs.
• Supervise and guide subordinate staff, plan work assignments, and oversee contraband searches, inventories, and equipment control.
• Intervene with youth through active supervision to maintain order, discipline, and a secure environment.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to promote safety, personal conduct, and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, and develop security procedures.
• Read and review youth information to identify special‑attention cases.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current and valid Georgia P.O.S.T. certification (must be obtained within six months of hire).
• At least one year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant (PSP222) or equivalent, or two years of military service at E‑5 rank or higher.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass reference and criminal background checks.
