Juvenile Correctional Officer – Terrell RYDC (Dawson, GA)

About the role

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Officer for the Terrell Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) in Dawson. In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic and educational environment for detained youth while maintaining facility security.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security and care of youth in accordance with department policies.
• Conduct contraband searches, security counts and supervise youth in housing units, classrooms and other areas.
• Intervene to control inappropriate behavior and ensure a safe, disciplined environment.
• Manage movement and transitions of youth within and between facilities, including temporary leaves.
• Promote adaptive behavior through positive reinforcement, redirection and verbal coaching.
• Screen visitors and staff, control access and operate security equipment and technology.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to meet agency physical agility standards.
