Juvenile Correctional Officer – Gainesville RYDC

About the role

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a dedicated Juvenile Correctional Officer for the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth, supporting their rehabilitation and personal development.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and standard operating procedures.
• Conduct contraband searches, security counts, and supervise youth in housing units, classrooms, and other facility areas.
• Intervene with youth to maintain order, using active supervision and behavior management techniques.
• Oversee movement and transitions of youth within and between facilities, including temporary leaves and transport.
• Promote adaptive behavior through positive reinforcement, redirection, verbal coaching, and role‑modeling.
• Screen visitors and staff to prevent contraband and unauthorized access.
• Utilize security equipment and technology to ensure the safety and well‑being of all individuals in the facility.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to meet physical agility standards required for security duties.
