Juvenile Correctional Officer 1 – Augusta RYDC

About the role

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a dedicated Juvenile Correctional Officer to join the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). In this entry‑level position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Conduct contraband searches, security counts, and supervise youth in housing units, classrooms, and other facility areas.
• Intervene with youth to maintain order, using active supervision and behavior management techniques.
• Oversee movement and transition of youth within and between facilities, including temporary leaves.
• Screen visitors and staff to prevent unauthorized access and contraband.
• Utilize security equipment and technology to support safety and well‑being.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Physical ability to meet agency‑established agility standards and pass a validated assessment.
