Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant – Augusta, GA

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant to join the Augusta Youth Development Center (YDC). In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth, modeling pro‑social behavior and ensuring security throughout the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with Department of Juvenile Justice policies.
• Supervise, guide, and assign work to subordinate staff and act as shift supervisor.
• Conduct active supervision, intervene to control inappropriate behavior, and enforce discipline.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, and prepare reports.
• Develop and enforce work and security procedures, including contraband searches and inventory control.
• Support training, selection, and orientation of subordinate staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED plus one (1) year as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP223) or equivalent, OR two (2) years of military experience at E‑5 rank or higher.
• Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to meet agency physical agility standards for demanding security duties.
