Junior Designer

About the role

Designworks, the design innovation studio of the BMW Group, is looking for a Junior Designer to join its Santa Monica studio. You will work on a variety of projects across multiple industries, turning research and concepts into high‑quality design solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Support a wide range of deliverables for diverse clients, ensuring innovative and excellent design output.
• Lead design efforts from research and concept creation through development, implementation, and collaboration with partners and vendors.
• Apply design knowledge to moderate‑to‑high complexity assignments, providing creative problem‑solving and analysis.
• Introduce experimental processes, emerging technologies, and forward‑thinking methodologies to elevate studio work.
• Balance traditional design principles with next‑generation tools and techniques.
• Help develop internal workflows and toolchains that improve scalability and efficiency.
• Generate ideas for products, interfaces, or brand experiences and evaluate them for aesthetics, usability, sustainability, materials and production methods.
• Integrate research findings and sketches into compelling presentations and work closely with cross‑functional teams.
• Support strategic services such as contextual research, design strategy and design identity, manage project hours and maintain system documentation (e.g., Workfront).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, transportation design, automotive design or a comparable creative discipline.
• 1–2 years of design experience or an equivalent portfolio demonstrating range, risk‑taking and a strong desire to exceed expectations.
• Advanced proficiency with 2D/3D software tools.
