Interdisciplinary Scientist – Washington, DC

About the role

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is seeking an Interdisciplinary Scientist to lead advanced medical countermeasure development and drive research‑and‑development initiatives. This senior position requires on‑site presence in Washington, DC and U.S. citizenship.

Key responsibilities

• Manage R&D projects, monitor progress, ensure regulatory compliance, and resolve technical issues.
• Provide scientific, technical, and managerial direction for advanced medical countermeasure programs.
• Coordinate consultations with inter‑agency partners, contractors, and key stakeholders.
• Communicate procurement strategies, project plans, status updates, and outcomes to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Degree in biological sciences, chemistry, agriculture, natural resource management, health sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑13 level, demonstrating senior‑level research leadership.
• Proven ability to apply advanced scientific theories and methods across disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, microbiology, or health sciences.
• Experience applying project‑management principles to plan, coordinate, and track resources, costs, schedules, and outcomes.
• Strong written and oral communication skills for senior‑level audiences.
