Instrumentation & Controls Engineer I

About the role

CenTrio is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer I to support the reliability, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of instrumentation and control systems at its Baton Rouge operations. This hands‑on engineering position offers exposure to PLCs, DCS, HMIs, SCADA, industrial networks and process automation in a live plant environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide instrumentation and controls support to plant operations and maintenance teams, including troubleshooting PLC, DCS, HMI, SCADA and communication network issues.
• Develop, modify, test and document control logic for PLC and DCS platforms following change‑management procedures.
• Support design, commissioning, startup and optimization of process control systems, including PID tuning and loop optimization.
• Specify, evaluate and calibrate instrumentation and control devices, and perform inspection, testing and adjustment of electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic and electromechanical equipment.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics and control narratives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems or related engineering discipline.
• Working knowledge of industrial automation and control systems such as PLCs, HMIs, SCADA and DCS.
• Understanding of process control fundamentals, PID control and loop tuning.
• Ability to read technical documentation (P&IDs, schematics, control narratives) and troubleshoot instrumentation and communication networks.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across operations, maintenance and engineering.
