Information Management Intern

About the role

The Department of Peacekeeping Operations is seeking a motivated Information Management Intern to support data‑driven initiatives. This six‑month unpaid internship can be undertaken remotely or in a hybrid arrangement at the UN premises in New York.

Key responsibilities

• Explore and prototype generative AI tools (large language models) for data processing, automation, and information management.
• Conduct statistical analysis of datasets and create infographics and PowerPoint presentations.
• Design and implement dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.
• Develop data‑collection applications with the Microsoft O365 suite, including SharePoint, PowerApps, Power Automate, and MS SQL.
• Support the creation of proof‑of‑concept applications that integrate generative AI capabilities.
• Prepare technical documentation and guidance on data‑collection and visualization tools.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed the final year of a bachelor’s program, or a graduate program (master’s or Ph.D.).
• Field of study closely related to information management, data analysis, or computer science.
• Demonstrated interest in United Nations work and commitment to the UN Charter.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Required skills

• Familiarity with generative AI tools and large language models.
