Immigration Staff Attorney

About the role

African Communities Together (ACT) seeks an experienced Immigration Staff Attorney to provide comprehensive legal services to its members and the broader African immigrant community in New York City. The role involves handling a wide range of immigration matters, from family‑based petitions to naturalization and removal of conditions, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to advance ACT’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑depth immigration screenings and assist clients with applications for adjustment of status, TPS, naturalization, green‑card renewals, family‑based visas, and removal of conditions.
• Draft, prepare, and submit immigration petitions and related documentation.
• Maintain an active caseload, ensuring timely updates and accurate client records.
• Represent clients before USCIS and, when necessary, before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR).
• Supervise paralegals and interns, providing guidance and oversight.
• Collaborate with the New York Legal Director on grant proposals, reports, and deliverables for both government and private funding.
• Refer clients to appropriate partner organizations for additional services.
• Participate in community outreach and educational events.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney with substantial experience in U.S. immigration law.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and linguistic groups.
• Strong case management skills and attention to detail.
• Experience supervising junior legal staff or interns.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Baseline salary of $90,000 per year, negotiable based on experience.
• Hybrid work schedule (average three days onsite per week).
