HR Generalist – Payroll & Benefits

About the role

Retro Studios is seeking an HR Generalist to lead payroll, benefits, and employee‑relations activities for its Austin studio. The role serves as the primary HR contact for staff, ensuring smooth administration of compensation, leave, and compliance matters while supporting a positive workplace culture.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact for employee HR questions, benefits, leave, and policy inquiries.
• Partner with studio leadership to drive employee engagement and reinforce a supportive culture.
• Document employee‑relations concerns, assist with investigations, and apply consistent policies.
• Support performance‑management cycles, onboarding, orientation, and off‑boarding processes.
• Collaborate with Retro Studios and Nintendo recruiting teams on hiring and onboarding initiatives.
• Maintain accurate, confidential personnel records and HRIS data; conduct regular audits.
• Prepare HR metrics such as headcount, turnover, and absenteeism for workforce planning.
• Lead the annual partnership with Nintendo of America to validate Total Rewards Statements.
• Administer benefits programs, 401(k) plans, workers’ compensation, leave administration, and unemployment claims.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of HR policies, benefits administration, leave management, and compensation reporting.
• Experience acting as an HR liaison for compliance matters (FLSA, ADA, FMLA, EEO).
• Ability to handle confidential information with accuracy and discretion.
• Proven ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with operations, recruiting, and senior leadership.
