Housing Specialist – Case Management (Apply by Sep 14)

About the role

The Mobile Housing Specialist works onsite with Allegheny County Department of Human Services and co‑locates at various community program sites to provide expert guidance and direct assistance to families facing housing crises.

Key responsibilities

• Act as an information clearinghouse on affordable housing, utility assistance, security deposits, landlord mediation and related resources.
• Provide direct, hands‑on support to participants, including housing searches, application assistance, and paperwork preparation.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of local, state and federal housing programs and eligibility requirements.
• Review leases, explain tenant rights and responsibilities, and advocate on behalf of households when needed.
• Track services delivered, attend staff meetings and trainings, and represent DHS as a resource specialist.
• Adapt daily co‑location schedule across Early Learning Resource Centers and Family Support Centers based on demand.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of local, state and federal housing resources and how to access them.
• Familiarity with utility and rental assistance programs that stabilize housing situations.
• Ability to engage families and individuals compassionately and effectively.
• Experience assisting with housing applications, lease reviews and tenant advocacy.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
