Housing Solutions Specialist (Multiple Positions)

About the role

The Housing Solutions Specialist works within the Office of Community Services at the Allegheny County Department of Human Services. The role supports individuals and families transitioning out of emergency shelters or other homeless system housing programs, helping them secure stable, permanent housing and avoid future homelessness.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct assistance to individuals facing housing crises, including eligibility screening for public and private programs.
• Guide households through the housing search process, complete applications, and become “document ready.”
• Explain lease terms, tenant rights, and responsibilities, and review lease agreements.
• Conduct assessments for homeless housing services and coordinate with community providers.
• Advocate on behalf of households when needed and empower them to self‑advocate.
• Track all supports provided and maintain accurate case records.

Required profile

• Experience working with homeless or low‑income populations, preferably in a social services or human services setting.
• Strong knowledge of local housing resources, emergency shelter systems, and eligibility criteria.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage clients respectfully and compassionately.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a network of community providers and internal data systems.
