Health Policy Legal Extern

About the role

The Health Policy Legal Extern position is a 10‑week hybrid internship with the Georgia Department of Public Health. Interns will support the Assistant Commissioner for Policy and the Director of Government Affairs during the legislative session, gaining hands‑on experience in health‑policy lawmaking.

Key responsibilities

• Track and analyze legislation that may affect the Department of Public Health.
• Summarize bills and amendments for internal distribution.
• Attend committee meetings, floor sessions, and budget hearings, providing concise meeting summaries.
• Assist with constituent services and develop relationships with external partners.
• Observe Senate and House chambers during voting to understand the legislative process.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled law student or Master of Public Health student.
• Enrollment at a Georgia high school, technical college, university, or college during the internship period.
• Willingness to perform tasks assigned by a supervisor and support ongoing projects.
