Health Aide 1 – Night Shift at East Central Regional Hospital

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a compassionate Health Aide 1 to join the night shift team at East Central Regional Hospital in Augusta. You will work directly with adults experiencing serious mental illness, helping them stay safe, develop daily living skills, and progress toward community reintegration.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
• Take vital signs and prepare patients for medical appointments.
• Facilitate social‑skill practice and self‑care routines.
• Lead group activities such as games or crafts to promote interaction.
• Transport patients to appointments and campus events.
• Monitor patient areas to prevent conflicts and ensure safety.
• Conduct searches for prohibited items on admission.
• De‑escalate upset patients and document observations in the electronic system.
• Communicate regularly with doctors, nurses, and counselors as part of the care team.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience in a hospital, nursing home, group home, or similar care setting.
• Experience working with individuals who have mental health conditions, trauma, or behavioral challenges.
• Ability to remain calm and kind during stressful situations.
• Successful completion of a full criminal background check and drug screen.
