Health Aide 1 – East Central Regional Hospital (Augusta)

About the role

Join the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities to support mental health recovery for adults with serious mental illness. You will work in a hospital setting, collaborating with doctors, nurses, and counselors to help patients stay safe, develop daily skills, and transition back to the community.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
• Take vital signs and prepare patients for medical appointments.
• Facilitate social skill practice and self‑care routines.
• Lead group activities like games or crafts to encourage interaction.
• Transport patients to appointments and campus activities.
• Monitor patient areas to prevent conflicts and ensure safety.
• Screen new patients for prohibited items.
• De‑escalate upset patients and provide calming support.
• Document patient progress and behavior in the computer system.
• Communicate regularly with the multidisciplinary care team.

Required profile

• At least one year of experience in a hospital, nursing home, group home, or similar care setting.
• Experience working with individuals who have mental health conditions, trauma, or behavioral challenges.
• Ability to remain calm and compassionate in stressful situations.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Willingness to undergo a full criminal background check and drug screening.
• Availability for the evening shift.
