Health Aide 1 – Day Shift at East Central Regional Hospital

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a compassionate Health Aide 1 to join the team at East Central Regional Hospital in Augusta. You will work on the day shift, supporting adults with serious mental illness in a hospital setting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
• Take vital signs and prepare patients for medical appointments.
• Facilitate group activities and teach social and self‑care skills.
• Monitor patient areas to ensure safety and prevent incidents.
• Conduct searches for prohibited items and help de‑escalate upset patients.
• Document patient progress and behavior in the electronic system.
• Communicate effectively with doctors, nurses, and counselors as part of the care team.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience in a hospital, nursing home, group home, or similar care setting.
• Experience working with individuals who have mental health conditions, trauma, or behavioral challenges.
• Ability to remain calm, kind, and professional in stressful situations.

Required skills

• Basic patient care techniques (bathing, dressing, feeding).
• Vital sign measurement.
• Documentation in electronic health record systems.
