Head of Risk – £900-£950 per day (Hybrid, Aberdeen/Edinburgh)

About the role

Our client is establishing a new risk function and seeks a Head of Risk to design and implement an enterprise‑wide risk management framework, focusing on financial and investment risk. This 12‑month fixed‑term role is hybrid, based in Aberdeen or Edinburgh, and offers a daily rate of £900‑£950.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a comprehensive enterprise risk management framework.
• Define risk appetite and align it with board and organisational objectives.
• Identify, monitor and report credit, market, liquidity and counter‑party risks.
• Oversee risk‑adjusted performance for investments including equity, infrastructure, guarantees, loans and grants.
• Lead stress testing, scenario analysis and compliance with UK financial regulations.
• Maintain the strategic risk register and report to the Board and Audit & Risk Committee.
• Provide second‑line oversight and challenge for investment proposals.
• Develop and maintain risk policies, standards and procedures.
• Enhance systems and analytics for risk reporting and management.
• Build and lead a high‑performing risk team, working closely with Investment and Development teams.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in financial risk management within investment banking, infrastructure finance or public investment institutions.
• Expertise in credit risk, market risk and portfolio risk modelling.
• Deep knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks and public‑private investment structures.
• Professional qualifications such as RM, CFA or PRM (or equivalent).
• Experience in renewable energy or infrastructure sectors and familiarity with government reporting and assurance.
• Background in start‑up or newly established environments; investment funds or wealth management experience is a plus.
