Head of Engineering

About the role

Plug is an automotive fintech startup building a dedicated marketplace for used electric vehicles. As Head of Engineering you will lead a fast‑growing engineering team, act as a player‑coach, and help shape the technical foundation of a Series A company.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow the engineering organization, hiring and mentoring new engineers from day one.
• Set technical direction, define architecture standards, and ensure high‑quality delivery.
• Spend roughly half of your time contributing code, addressing tech debt, and making architecture decisions.
• Collaborate closely with the SVP of Product & Technology to align engineering output with product vision.
• Foster an AI‑native culture, champion collaborative processes, and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role (player‑coach) within a high‑growth startup.
• Strong track record of building and scaling engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, cloud infrastructure, and AI‑native development.
• Ability to balance hands‑on technical work with strategic leadership.
