Head of Design & Taste

About the role

We’re hiring someone whose job is to make everything beautiful – from product interfaces and the website to internal tools, merchandise, and the overall brand presence. The role defines and executes Build AI’s visual taste across both digital and physical assets.

Key responsibilities

• Own visual taste across product, brand, and any human‑facing touchpoint.
• Treat the website, job board, and recruiting surfaces as products you ship, not as vendor decks.
• Create interfaces, artifacts, and merchandise that attract talent and customers.
• Design merch and physical objects, collaborating with Shenzhen ID/ME on collection hardware CMF.
• Partner with the Product Lead to ensure internal tools are not ugly by default.
• Maintain a high bar for quality while moving fast, preventing cheap‑looking shipments.

Required profile

• Taste is obvious in your work; a strong portfolio outweighs credentials.
• Experience shipping both digital and physical/brand assets (merch, packaging, environments a plus).
• Proficient in design tools (Figma or similar) to deliver interfaces and layouts yourself.
• Can operate as the design function without managing a large team.
