General Ledger Manager

About the role

The General Ledger Manager is a hands‑on leader responsible for payroll accounting, equity roll‑forwards, accounts payable oversight, and monthly variance analysis. The role manages a team of Senior GL Accountants, an AP Specialist and GL Accountants, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and audit‑readiness of the ledger.

Key responsibilities

• Leadership & team management: directly manage Senior GL Accountants and AP Specialist, prioritize workload, coach and evaluate performance.
• Second‑level review and sign‑off on work performed by GL Accountants, maintaining consistency and quality.
• Set daily and monthly priorities aligned with the month‑end close calendar.
• Identify staffing, training and process gaps; recommend solutions to senior finance leadership.
• Own payroll accounting: execute payroll journal entries, allocate subsidiary expenses, reconcile payroll‑related balance‑sheet accounts and maintain SOPs.
• Partner with HR/People to map payroll GL, code new entities and resolve data discrepancies.
• Oversee accounts payable coding accuracy, provide guidance, review vendor coding and manage payout activity and related reconciliations.
• Perform monthly flux and variance analysis, including COGS vs. SG&A classification review.
• Flexibly assume ownership of additional balance‑sheet areas such as intercompany, cash/bank accounting or leases as priorities evolve.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading accounting teams and managing multiple GL functions.
• Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, accounts payable processes and month‑end close procedures.
• Ability to conduct detailed variance analysis and ensure audit‑ready financial records.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional partnership with HR, People and senior finance leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to identify process gaps and implement improvements.
