Full-Time Unit Secretary – UHealth Tower

About the role

The Nursing Department at the University of Miami Health System is seeking a full‑time Unit Secretary to support an assigned unit. The role involves maintaining patient records, handling administrative tasks, and ensuring a smooth, professional environment for staff, patients and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Create a calm, business‑like atmosphere that promotes productivity.
• Greet patients, families, visitors and callers, directing them appropriately.
• Answer telephone calls promptly, take messages and transfer calls using hospital scripting.
• Maintain and organize patient charts, assembling admission charts within 15 minutes of arrival.
• Prepare patient welcome packets and complete clean‑room checklists before patient entry.
• Ensure transfer documentation is sent to receiving units and maintain appropriate logs.
• Manage supplies and equipment availability while following infection‑control and safety guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
